Web and Database Administrator

The MySchools Operational Support Project will provide critical support for the continued operation of MySchools, deliver technical upgrades to maintain compliance, implement enhancements to address evolving policy and leadership priorities, and ensure the smooth and timely execution of key enrollment initiatives that respond to the needs of families and other stakeholders.

The Web and Database Administrator is responsible for managing web servers, application servers, and database systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security. This role involves configuring servers, applying security updates, balancing database loads, archiving data, and conducting deployment operations for application updates and infrastructure changes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Server Management:
    • Configure and manage Linux/Ubuntu servers to support web and database operations.
    • Monitor and optimize the performance of Nginx and Gunicorn application servers.
    • Apply regular security updates and patches to maintain system integrity.

Database Administration:
    • Manage PostgreSQL databases, including performance tuning, indexing, and backups.
    • Implement load balancing strategies to ensure efficient database performance.
    • Perform regular data archiving and ensure compliance with data retention policies.

Deployment and Infrastructure:
  • Utilize Docker for containerization of applications to streamline deployments.
  • Automate server and application configurations using Ansible.
  • Oversee infrastructure changes and ensure seamless integration with application updates.

Caching and Optimization:
    • Configure and manage Redis for caching to improve application performance.
    • Monitor resource utilization and recommend infrastructure improvements.

Troubleshooting and Support:
  • Provide technical support for web and database-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks in web applications and database systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • 4+ years in Web and Database Administration.
  • Proficient in Linux/Ubuntu server management.
  • Hands-on experience with Nginx, Gunicorn, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and Ansible.
  • Strong understanding of Database Performance Tuning, Indexing, and Backup Strategies.
  • Familiarity with Load Balancing and High-Availability Systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to system maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Understanding of network security best practices.
  • Ability to automate tasks using scripting languages like Python or Bash.
