Network & Infrastructure Operational Support Project - As the largest school system in the nation, serving over 900,000 students across 1,800 schools, DIIT provides essential IT solutions, including data centers, networks, devices, and support, to enhance student learning and optimize operations. DIIT is responsible for ensuring reliable technology access for students and staff, supporting the DOE’s commitment to equity and educational excellence.
DIIT is seeking operational support resources to strengthen infrastructure, improve system performance, streamline processes, and ensure consistent, reliable IT services across the DOE.
JOB DESCRIPTION The Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Engineer will support the design, development, and implementation of infrastructure components with declarative code in standard-based IaC framework. This role will automate infrastructure deployment and management processes to ensure compliance, scalability, and operational efficiency. DOE is currently using VMware Cloud Foundation Automation and Saltstack products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design & Deployment: Design, develop, and maintain IaC scripts and blueprints for automated infrastructure deployment and management. Support deployment processes, backup/archiving, and version alignment in multi datacenter deployments.
Automation: Automate configuration management, workload and load balancer orchestration, environment provisioning, and IaC validation.
Documentation: Develop and document deployment playbooks, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Training & Knowledge Sharing: Train teams in IaC development, pipeline management, and automated testing.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered
Minimum 3 years of experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
Proficiency in DevOps/DevSecOps, including CI/CD, automation tools (Saltstack, Terraform, GitLab, Ansible), and container orchestration.
Expertise in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) and tools for IaC execution and monitoring.
Experience with security scanning, code optimization, and performance monitoring.
Familiarity with cloud frameworks, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, and network configurations (IPv4, IPv6).
Knowledge of software and OS hardening best practices (OWASP, CERT, STIG).
Proficiency with virtualization tools.
Strong communication skills.
Mentoring and training experience.
